Access To & Affordability of Civil Justice

This sub-sub-indicator assesses the extent to which people can access and afford civil justice. This is based on the following criteria: the extent to which people are aware of available remedies, such as court procedures, formal justice mechanisms through which grievances could be addressed; their legal rights in the event of arrest or interrogation; the complexity of legal procedures; the extent to which people can access and afford legal advice and representation; the extent to which physical location or language barriers prevent access to courts; the extent to which the costs of courts, lawyers and procedures are expensive.
