Absence of Bribery In the Police & Military

This sub-sub-indicator assesses the extent to which government officials in the police and the military do not use public office for private gain. This is based on the following criteria: the extent to which criminal organisations influence the policies and actions of the military and the police; police or law enforcement officers are likely to request a bribe to perform their duties or expedite a process; local police officers are likely to collect bribes from traders and small merchants; police turn a blind eye to illegal activities when receiving a bribe; police officers and court officers are likely to request or receive bribes to actually investigate a crime, prosecute a criminal, drop charges or grant bail, destroy or tamper with evidence, or expedite court processes; prosecutors, investigators, judicial police and police officers are involved in corrupt practices; people have to pay a bribe to receive the services of the police.
