This sub-indicator assesses the extent to which there is inequality within the economy, irrespective of the actual performance of the economy. This includes for example structural inequality, both actual and perceived, that is based on group (racial, ethnic, religious, other identity group), education, economic status, or region (such as urban-rural divide) as well as opportunities for groups to improve their economic status, for example through access to employment, education or job training.
